Bill via email asks:
Hi Aunty. I have a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 10 and I have managed to install
the new Skype without any problems but every now and then I have a issue trying to
make a call to the UK. I downloaded Skype from the proper Skype site and I can sign in
OK with my username & password. The call-back test thing works but frustratingly this
is as far as it goes as I cannot see where I can select the Skype names that I want to call
Hi Bill. You should see all of your contacts either under the contact menu option and/or
from the “contact” & “recent” headings on the left. With the latest version of Skype you
can simply type in people’s details in the search box on the top left, or better still type
on their email address and pick the most likely match and send a request. Once they
have accepted they will then appear in your contact list. I usually try find their email
address first as this is guaranteed to be 100% unique.
Paul via email asks:
Hi Aunty, When I try to some websites sites, it informs me it “cannot establish a secure
connection” which is ok but it doesn't give me option of allowing access, I've
tried searching for a solution but all answers seem to concern blocking rather than
allowing, hope you can help with this problem as you have in the past, tanks in
Hi Paul. The most common cause for this kind of error message is that the date/time on
your computer is out. The security check between your tablet and some websites relies
on a “certificate” being passed back & forth to verify that the website is genuine, kind
of like showing some kind of ID. If the date is out on your laptop or tablet then this will
invalidate the certificate. Of course it could be a plethora of other problems so let me
know how you get on.
Liam via email asks:
Dear Aunty, please can you recommend what free Security Software I need to install on
my new Windows 10 Lenovo Laptop as there are so many of them to choose from? I
use my laptop for banking, emails and browsing the internet.
Hi Liam I still highly recommend SuperAntiSpyware and/or Malwarebytes and use the
built in Windows Defender that comes pre-installed with Window 10.
Well that’s all for this week. Email me at email@example.com and I will see what
I can do to help you out.
