Orihuela closes beaches at 1am

The Orihuela City Council has imposed a curfew on its beaches. Previously, the municipality had not established a time limitation on its beaches, unlike neighbouring Torrevieja. However, the City Council is now going to enforce the closure of the beaches from 1 in the morning until 7 in the morning.
The Beaches and Citizen Security departments have decided to adopt this measure, which was made effective recently following the closure of discos and pubs and the limitation of bars and restaurants opening only until 1am.
The local government team were concerned that if the bars closed at 1am, people might be tempted to transfer their night-time revelry to the beaches. This was a particular concern with young people who will be looking for alterative places to drink, dance and listen to music once everywhere else closes.
With the closure of the beaches at night, the Consistory prevents partying on the beaches and this hopefully will help minimise the spread of Covid across the municipality.
The City Council will carry out an information campaign to communicate the measure and the times will be indicated at the entrance points to the beaches. The Local Police will fines those found the areas outside the allowed hours.
Local officers have sent an informative circular to all leisure establishments with the regulations established by the Generalitat and will ensure that the closing hours are observed by bars and restaurateurs, and that discos and pubs are closed.
