Covid shuts San Fulgencio sports centre

The Mayor of San Fulgencio and Councillor for Sports, José Sampere, have announced the closure of the municipal sports centre and Nuevo Cañaveral stadium, due to the detection of a positive case among the players of the first regional local football club, Sporting Saint Fulgencio.
The local government team has already closed the facilities to carry out an immediate treatment for the total cleaning and disinfection of the facility, as well as the suspension of classes for the Municipal Sports Schools, since they share this training space with the footballers.
As reported by the Mayor, “the risk of contagion is not very high, since the player was only present in the friendly match that took place on Saturday, 5th September, although they have stopped practicing sport since and until this week as a preventive measure ”.
The player had mild symptoms and is already under treatment. Likewise, the Ministry of Health has activated the relevant action protocol and has notified all the people in his environment who have or could have come in to contact with him in recent days, so that they take health measures and start the quarantine.
“We will be very aware of the evolution of this case and we will wait for any update of the situation,” said Councillor Sampere. “The City Council of San Fulgencio wants to convey a message of tranquillity and normality because the health authorities assure us that possible cases of contagion are fully controlled and delimited,” the Mayor added.
San Fulgencio is one of the municipalities in the Vega Baja with the lowest incidence of Covid-19, counting so far just 10 total cases and two deaths throughout the pandemic, and three active cases in the last fourteen days.
The Mayor also thanked people for “the exemplary compliance with the sanitary security measures that the local population is carrying out” but also insisting on the need to continue with the national recommendations “such as frequent hand washing, mandatory mask wearing and respecting the social distance” as measures to prevent contagion.
