San Fulgencio Local Police officers prevented two robberies in the area in recent days, revealed mayor José Sampere.
The first of the attempted robberies took place on Wednesday when, after a tip off by a neighbour, officers arrived to a house in Urbanisation La Marina and found three hooded men in the process of trying to break into a safe. Upon noticing the police presence, the men fled before being able to steal anything. In their haste to escape the men left a backpack, which has been handed over to the Guardia Civil for fingerprints in the hope they can identify the robbers.
Officers also prevented a second robbery on Friday in an establishment in the commercial area of San Fulgencio. This resulted in the arrest of two individuals for an alleged crime of robbery with violence and intimidation. It was the owner who called the police when it was detected that two people were trying to break into the safe. The pair resisted being arrested, and during the struggle, one of the officers was injured and had to be treated at the health centre. Both individuals were transferred to the offices of the Guardia Civil in Guardamar.
The Mayor commended the officers saying the success of both cases “are the result of the efforts of our agents to increase citizen security, in addition to reinforcing the surveillance of our streets in recent months to prevent this type of event from occurring in our municipal area.”
The Local Police has reported that, in the coming days, “there will be an increase in random traffic controls in the municipality of San Fulgencio in addition to establishing more prevention points to control vehicles and people. Police Headquarters were keen to appeal to the public to report any suspicious activity in the municipality as quickly as possible, by contacting the Local Police headquarters on the telephone number 966 79 44 53.
