The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the team of Councillors and the spokesperson for Ciudadanos, gathered on the Paseo Marítimo in Torrevieja to unveil a sculpture in hour of the victims of Covid-19. The sculpture bears the inscription: “Torrevieja to the victims of Covid – 19. You left alone, but you will remain forever in our memory.”
The simple monument has as its main figure an iron sculpture entitled “Embraces with Soul”, which was developed together with the non-profit association Alarum, represented at the unveiling by Emi Alilaga, and created by Crevillente artist, Pepe Miralles.
The mayor announced that when the situation regarding the pandemic allows it, “a great act of tribute to all the victims will be held in this same place, with recognition of all the people who in one way or another have tried to mitigate the effects of this tragedy.”
The representative of the Alarum association thanked the Torrevieja Town Hall for supporting this project and explained that this sculpture means “the embrace of compassion, a feeling that makes us more human and allows us to understand the pain of others.”
The creator, Pepe Miralles, said “It has been a great responsibility for me for all that this motive entails and what I wanted to collect is the hug in the air that symbolizes all the hugs that we have not been able to give ourselves in these times.”
The “Hugs with Soul” project is set to be complemented with an educational initiative so that the youngest citizens can build memory and awareness around everything that happened in relation to Covid-19. Councillor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, revealed that “an olive tree will be planted in each school that will symbolize the memory of everything we are experiencing. Other activities such as workshops for students will also take place.”
