An awareness campaign on plastic recycling is currently being carried out by the Department of the Environment and Street Cleaning, under the slogan “Orihuela chooses to recycle” – and this recently saw the campaign move to the beaches of the municipality.
Dozens of families have been able to enjoy children’s workshops in Barranco Rubio, Cala Capitán, Cala Bosque, Cala Estaca, Aguamarina, Cala Mosca, Punta Prima, La Glea, La Caleta and Cala Cerrada.
Employees from the specialist company ‘Conecta Eventos y Animación’ showed the little ones different things that plastic can be used for beyond its first useful life. The activities focused on different crafts with recycled plastic as the main element.
Dámaso Aparicio, the councillor responsible for organising the campaign said he was happy with the good reception from residents and tourists and added that starting in October, another action focused on children will be carried out and will be developed in schools.
“The objective is to get a greater number of residents to get involved in this cause and to become a model city in recycling. We must end the uncivil attitude of poor disposal of plastics that is doing so much damage to seas and oceans,” he said.
