Local community supports Food Bank fundraiser

On Thursday 16th September The Stray Sod, La Fuente Centre, will once more host one of the biggest and the hottest charity events in the region in aid of both the Blue Lagoon and La Florida Community Food Banks.
The event will be hosted by Stevie Spit and will start at 2pm with a lineup of local entertainers including Nikki G, Alex Tipping, Eddie Molloy, John the Fiddler, Chloe Jones, The Duo Project and Bella Luna. In addition to an afternoon of top tunes, there will be raffles and a tombola with prizes not to be missed – with a top mystery prize worth 200e.
Filip, BlueLagoon Food Bank said: “I can´t disclose what exactly will be there to be won on the day in terms of the big prizes, but I can say that there are some amazing items and a top prize that anyone would be delighted to get their hands on.”
“We are absolutely stunned by the response from local businesses, individual members of the community and regular supporters of our Food Bank. Many people have struggled themselves at times through the pandemic and so understand how vital the extra help can be. The sense of community is just wonderful.”
Other raffle prizes include vouchers for meals, drinks, goods and services provided by various local companies. All prizes will be sealed in dark envelopes so no one will know what is up for grabs or what’s in each envelope until the winner opens it.
There are still many families who struggle with current and last year´s bill payments, putting food on their tables. Many have found temporary jobs through the high season in café’s, bars and restaurants but once the summer ends most will find themselves without work once again. Both food banks do whatever they can to make sure their pantries are ready for this scenario and no one is turned away but to do this we real on donations from the community in the form of food stuffs, dry goods and toiletries.
The event is being officially supported by the Costa Blanca People and Sunshine FM.
