A fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning, destroying a shoe factory in Catral. Sources at the Provincial Firefighters Consortium confirmed that the fire caused severe damage to the structure of the building and parts of the roof had collapsed, but neighbouring buildings were not affected, nor were there any injuries.
The alarm was raised shortly before 4am when fire crews were called to the warehouse on Calle Partición in Catral’s San Juan industrial estate. A number of vehicles from Crevillente, Elche and San Vicente del Raspeig fire stations rushed to the scene and 17 members of the fire brigade began tackling the blaze.
The fire was considered under control at 7am on Sunday but firefighters worked throughout the day to extinguish the last flames.
