Mercadona trolley manoeuvre enforces social distancing

If you have visited Mercadona in recent days you might have seen a simple manoeuvre that staff are asking customers to use to ensure social distancing in the queue – turning your trolley back to front.
The backwards trolley rule is a new measure to ensure the safety distance with the customer in front and with the cashier. Queuing this way, customers can still place purchases on the conveyor belt and also respect the two meters distance.
Twitter users across Spain were quick to see the funny side of the new rule. One said “Mercadona cashiers have scolded me more this week than my parents have my whole life.” Another said “The Mercadona cashier makes me more nervous than the driving instructor with all the turning of the trolley!”
