The Neighbourhood Association “San Miguel Arcángel” and local residents from the town’s Balcon de la Costa Blanca urbanisation have written to the Department of Transport, Public Works and Mobility to request that changes are made to the CV-95 road works that are currently under way to the east of the town. The works will see two roundabouts added to main road as it skirts the town.
The locals are requesting that a connection is made with the CV-95 in the San Miguel-Torrevieja traffic direction with the service road at the intersection of Avda de la Ronda Norte and Gran Vía streets, in the Balcón de la Costa Blanca urbanisation – which is the main artery that connects the town centre of the municipality with this residential area.
This similar connection, has been carried out just opposite the urbanisation, in the service road to give access to the Ford dealership
Residents warn that the bus stops that have been planned on the edge of the road will block the traffic travelling along the CV-95 – which has a density that at that point exceeding ten thousand vehicles per day – as the road is narrow and vehicles will have to wait behind the bus as passengers get on and off. They are also concerned for the physical safety of passengers, as they will have to cross the service road and the two lanes of the CV-95, to catch the bus if they want to travel in the direction.
To solve this problem, residents propose that in the direction of the San Miguel-Torrevieja the bus stop be moved to the service road and that to guarantee safety in the Torrevieja-San Miguel direction, push-button traffic lights be installed to allow locals to cross safely.
The neighbours want the Department of Public Works to respond to their requests, after claiming that Mayor Juan de Dios Fresneda (PSOE) has not helped, despite his commitment to support the demands of the residents of the urbanisation. San Miguel Arcángel and local residents believe that the Mayor has done nothing to ensure greater security and accessibility within the works that are being carried out on the CV-95 as it passes through the municipality.
The construction works of the roundabouts themselves, which were formally presented by the Generalitat in the previous mandate and began in October 2018, have been paralysed for a year for reasons that the Generalitat is unable to clarify.
One of the roundabouts, which connects the road with the urban area, has been constructed and has resolved what was a black spot for traffic accidents. However, the signage hasn’t been installed and there are still works needed before it is completed.
The project will see an investment of 1.4 million euros.
