Skin cancer prevention at Orihuela beach

The Councillor for Beaches, Ramón López Cabrera, has launched a health station at Cala Bosque, La Zenia under the slogan ‘Playas de Orihuela: a sea of health’.
The health station known as ‘Hi Point’ is aimed specifically at the prevention of skin cancer, as well as contributing to the general safety of visitors. This will add an additional facility to the beaches blue flags, Q for quality and Qualitur.
The Councillor said: “This device takes another step forward to thinking about next summer as this facility will be available throughout the year, and with this element we intend to offer not only a quality space, but also a health space.”
“It is a new unique tool on the Costa Blanca and only the tenth that has been installed in Spain, it is currently found on some beaches such as Figueretes de Ibiza, Andratx or Arrecife in Lanzarote,” Councillor López Cabrera explained, adding that “our intention is to install it on an experimental basis and in the coming seasons to add it on our eleven beaches. So for tourists, they know that in addition to having the blue flags, Q for quality and the Qualitur, they also have totally healthy beaches”.
The Councillor for Beaches stressed that “we want that safety message not only to be offered through rescue and first aid provision, but for this facility to allow the beaches of Orihuela to be a sea of health”.
The health station has a ‘sun traffic light’ that measures the intensity of ultraviolet radiation, a defibrillator, a shaded area for rest or breastfeeding, an emergency button connected to 112 and a charging area for battery-powered wheelchairs and for smart-phones.
In addition, it also has a digital, interactive and informative touch screen monitor with an integrated camera that tells you what your skin phototype is.
This installation also has a screen with which to see all the cultural offerings for Orihuela, including the beaches, districts and the historic centre of the city, and which will also communicate preventive messages from the Spanish Association against Cancer, as well as information on prevention and action on health issues, geo-location of places of interest, a detailed health map and surveys of tourist quality and services.
In terms of prevention and protection against Covid-19, it has an antibacterial soap dispenser and a disinfectant mat.
This initiative, developed by the company Hi Services, is in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, in prevention of skin cancer.
