Valencia increases restrictions in the city

The regional health minister, Ana Barcelo has announced that special measures are being applied to the city of Valencia where 63 of the new reported 180 outbreaks have occurred. The new rules come into effect today – Friday 14th August and restrict friends and family gatherings to 15 people. All establishments in Valencia must ensure a distance of 1.5 meters between people at different tables – between diners and not just between tables as before – and the occupation will be a maximum of ten people per table or group of tables. Bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, pubs and nightclubs will be forced to close at 1:30 in the morning and cannot have a dance floor. Tables can be placed with the required distance up to the limit of 60 percent of the capacity. Hotels and tourist accommodation must limit the capacity of common areas to 60 percent and reduce the maximum number of group activities to 25 people. In outdoor cultural activities, the capacity may not exceed 60 percent and masks are mandatory and the social distance must be kept. In open air concerts the distance should also be one and a half meters.
The Minister of Health has confirmed that she is looking into whether to ban smoking on the street if there is not enough safety distance, a decision that has already been adopted in Galicia and the Canary Islands as a measure to stop the increase in cases of coronavirus.
All new measure for the city come into force with their publication on Friday in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat (DOGV) and will be applicable for 14 calendar days until almost the end of the month.
Although in principle the bans are only for the capital, “it does not mean that in the coming days they cannot be extended to other cities or provinces,” the minister added.
